Sweet Saturday Morning

Well, someone had dance class and had to stop by and see me :) Actually, I was called and asked to take her picture in her very pink tutu. Now, this is the girl who hasn't let me have a camera around her in about a year, so I was excited to have her over!! She even asked me to take a picture of brother, so what's a photographer to do? Snap, shoot, pose, dance!!

The happy couple just can't contain their excitement about adding first baby to the family. Mom comes from a family of all girls and dad comes from an all boy clan. Looks like dad leads the way on this one as they will welcome baby boy K. in April. We can't wait to meet him :) I bet he is just as sweet as his momma and poppa who are obviously in love with each other and anxiously awaiting sharing all that love with him!

Double the Fun!-Murfreesboro Photographers

We were put on hold for posting some Christmas twins because these pics needed to be surprises for grandparents. So, so tickled to be able to share now that the holiday surprise is out of the box-unwrapped, let's say! We so love these sweet boys and think they are part of the family at Cogknitive. They will have their first birthday this year and we can't wait to see what they think of cake!
Now, one word of caution. The pics with the lights are simply adorable, however, there is research to show that the lights and cords have higher than normal levels of lead. We were aware of that and that the boys did not need to have them anywhere near their mouths for the shoot. Please know that we got mom's permission and had many hands posted right outside the frame of these shoots to keep our boys safe! We would not recommend this set up with one person at home with a camera and their small child!
Meanwhile, with lots of hands, the lights do make for oodles of sweetness and keep our boys safe!

We welcome our newest baby club member just in time for Christmas! She is perfect in every way and her daddy will confirm that for you. Can't you just see the place she has already carved out in his heart? She is truly a blessed addition to this young family and we feel very honored to get to be a part of her world in her first year. She is a beauty-just like her momma!

Murfreesboro Photography-Baby Club

Little Man S is growing up and sitting pretty for his first Christmas. We were so glad to meet up with him again for his 6 month sitting and he was such a great photo subject. He seemed to remember what we ladies with the cameras are all about and he was comfortable and personable. It's really fun for us to plan for our babies' next sessions and see how their personalities have developed. Wonder if he'll be "cruising" for us at 9 months?
We are really enjoying our baby club members. We started the program this year and have our first babies turning one in a few short months. Can't wait to have some cake and balloons!!

Baby Girl Number Two!

On a very cold day, we got to feel all the warmth this sweet family shares! They just welcomed baby number two, another beautiful girl and we got to come see her for her first photo shoot. She did not want to sleep her special time away, however, and was bright eyed for most of her session. I think she didn't want to miss anything!

Sometimes there are just images we love. I've said it before and I'll say it again, I love eyelashes and pieces and parts of sweet kids. The freckles across the nose and those bony little legs peeking out from beneath the fluff just make me melt! These two are special to me and visited from Michigan for Thanksgiving. We love it when they come and wish they were closer and we could have more gorgeous Tennessee days. These Northern girls said it was "hot" down here :) Since they are so rad and modern, we had to play with the color and get it a little edgy in some of these shots!

Counting our Blessings

So, it is that time of year again when we take time out of our hectic schedules to officially give thanks for our many, many blessings. One can hardly imagine gazing upon the face of a newborn baby and not being overwhelmed with thanks and gratitude. This sweet little baby "turkey" is a little miracle. We feel very blessed to welcome new baby M. as our newest baby club member. Thanks to all our customers who have trusted us with helping preserve your memories this year. We love getting to watch "our" babies grow as we follow their first year. It's hard to believe Mister N. is pulling up and going places. In fact, during his session, he made sure we didn't get him in a couple of places we thought might be kind of fun. He thought otherwise and now he has the means to get away from us!! Been DYING to get these up!!

These are pictures we have been so wanting to get out to our handsome senior and his wonderful family. The Cogknitives have had some computer glitches. While we always keep two computers humming away, this thing hit us where it hurts-in both computers at the same time. What are the odds!? At any rate, we are up and running (we think-keep your fingers crossed). It's a great thing too as we have weddings and babies to shoot this week.

Enjoy these few pictures of a handsome young man with a real talent on the bass. We felt very honored to get a chance to capture him and his personality.

And this last picture is a true reflection of the boys and their personalities. They didn't take this session very seriously which aggravated their mom and made it loads of fun for us! Who wouldn't love them?

There really is no place like home, and this shoot took me right back home. I literally grew up on this football field and can repair a chinstrap with the best of them!! Shelby is the ball girl at TC now and a fine basketball player too. She's a true beauty-inside and out-and Holly and I enjoy our time with her and her mom every time we meet. The weather could not have been any more gorgeous than what we had to work with Miss M. The light was scrumptious and there was just enough breeze to keep things light and comfy....no mosquitoes to speak of either!! She was such a natural in front of the camera, didn't act the least bit nervous or self-conscious right from the start. Made for a wonderful afternoon :)

Senior PIctures in the 'Boro!

The thing you may not (and we hope not!) see from these pictures is just how many mosquitoes are out right now in the 'boro! Poor Miss H was absolutely covered up with them while we tried to get some shots out in the fields. We think she is probably one of the greatest kids we've ever photographed as she never complained at all, but absolutely had to be pretty miserable. We sure hope her pretty pictures make it worth all her itching!!

It's strange how we get attached to every couple we work with, every baby we get to photograph, and every family or senior we are honored to shoot. Each one is unique and beautiful in their own way, but we just loved, loved, loved this day for our Lauren and Cal. So much work and love had gone into the planning of it and it all went off as smooth as silk. Everyone was happy and settled, just like it was meant to be...a true celebration of love, joining of families, and a day to bless their union.

Finally, we get to post a few quick peeks of L's bridal portraits. While she and C did agree to see each other before the ceremony, she really did want the gown to be a surprise for him on wedding day. So, we had to wait to post even a glimpse of the dress.

Everything went off without a hitch for a gorgeous outdoor ceremony in a setting that truly was to die for! After a week of Hurricane fueled rain, the blue sky and white fluffy clouds really did seem like a special wedding gift for these two straight from the heavens. So, enjoy the peek of the gown....

It's football time in Tennessee!! It was such fun to see the orange out in force. Holly and I have closed shop for the past couple of weeks as we pursued some of our other passions. Holly is a fine horse woman who spent long nights at the Shelbyville Celebration and my family was drawn to football. I didn't think I could take the "good" camera and lug it around all day, and boy was I lucky I made that decision. The sky over Neyland opened and poured out all its fury before kickoff. I would have been sick if my other "baby" had been rained on and not ready for our wedding this weekend. Oh, speaking of rain and weddings-keep your fingers crossed for a beautiful Saturday for an outdoor ceremony!!

Mom told us straight up when we arrived to do baby N's pictures that he was cranky today. Well, if this is the cranky boy, we love it and may just have to arrange to photograph more cranky babies! He was truly delightful-just grinned and giggled all through the shoot until he rubbed his eyes and told us he was sleepy ;) He has some of the most gorgeous eyes we have gotten to see, too. We simply can't wait to see him again at 9 months old!

The brothers visited us from out of town and we are so glad the weather let us shoot. We had some rain on this Saturday morning which was a great thing for lots of reasons. Reason #1-We were all parched and dry in the 'boro. Reason #2-It left some cloud cover and a tiny bit of cooler weather. Reason #3-PUDDLES!!! We saved the puddles for the finale, but what a fun, fun time we had. Honestly, the two photographers were right in there too holding the cameras high and dry :)

Baby Morgan Makes 3 Girls!!

What a collection of femininity! We had just a brief stint in Aunt Bettye's back yard and wow, what a vista-so simple and so beautiful. The cornfield was a perfect backdrop and there's been enough rain in late July to keep things so beautiful and green. Can you tell we love our new prop for babies? The bread dough bowl is wonderful and a perfect size for perfect babies. Not to mention, the big sisters can dance around them wonderfully!

These guys have just grown by leaps and bounds since we met them. Now there are just cheeks and rolls everywhere!! They have their very own personalities and looks to go with all those cheeks, too. We have to say first of all that these two have to be two of the sweetest people we have ever met! Truly, they just wanted to take care of one another throughout the shoot. The pictures of Cal carrying Lauren are for real-no posing here!! Heck, I think he would have carried us if we had asked. He's just a doll and she is gorgeous! Here is a quick sneak peak of a few images from the afternoon which was simply perfect for picture taking. We are so excited to see our bride in her dress pretty soon, but there will be no peeks of that until the big day!!

What a Great Season! Go Red Sox!

Wow, what a fun night! The Red Sox coach pitch team had an undefeated season and played in the championship game. We squeaked it out 12-8 for the victory. This is such a great group of boys that have had a super team of coaches and LOTS of parent support. Might I add that we parents have had as much, if not more, fun than the boys. Of course, the camera came to several of the games and caught some shots of each boy in action. Just could not resist sharing a few from the big night here. It was a super experience for the boys and a big thanks goes out to Murfreesboro Optimist Baseball for making it so special. They had music, the line ups announced, the National Anthem, and the ceremonial first pitch. The guys had to feel like big leaguers, and, you know what, for this night they were :)

Baby Michael Is a Georgia Bulldog!

When we talked to mom about capturing some newborn shots, we asked if there was anything special to include. She said they didn't really care, just anything would work. Well, when we got there, the "boys" all have Georgia jerseys and dad whips out a football signed by Vince Dooley! Some Georgia football needed to be included in these shots. They were happy to comply! Baby Michael wasn't sure he liked all the attention, but we managed to capture images that convey the love the family shares for each other. They were great to work with and we look forward to watching them grow together!

It's so hard to believe that he will be entering his senior year this fall. Mom and Dad have raised a wonderful young man. Walking into Summer!

Can't wait to walk barefoot for a couple of months!! Call me a redneck, country bumpkin, or hillbilly, but some of my best memories are from when I was a little girl and ran all over the fields with no shoes!! Your feet were pretty much as tough as the soles on any shoes, but it was the unarguable sign that it was summer break. This shot was one that wasn't even posted from Miss C's shoot, but it screams of summer to me. Since today marks our official last day of school, throw the shoes in the corners, kids, and have yourselves some summer :)

This beauty is following a family tradition of having 10 year old portraits done. She really embraced the event, too!! She had brothers in tow, changes of outfits, and lots of cool poses in mind. We have gotten to be with sweet baby M's mom and dad for engagement and wedding. You remember as a kid, "First comes love, then comes marriage, then comes Andy with a baby carriage!" Well, really, that's how I feel! They feel like part of the family now, and what a sweet addition, huh? She was a super trooper with everything we curled her up in and changed her into. A Look for Mothers

Well, there are action pictures that capture the moment, the movement, and the speed of the game. Then, there are the pictures that capture the spirit of why we play and why we love and why we watch. We play for all the little boys with big hearts and big league dreams. The sweet souls that we love so much and have loved since we first held them in our arms.
Don't you just know that the moms of professional baseball players still see those sweet eyes and sweet memories when they look at their "little boys!"
In honor of Mother's Day, just wanted to post one of my favorite current pictures of part of what I love about being a mom, wanted to say thanks for my mother who taught me how much it means to be there for all the moments, wanted to share with other moms who know how precious the moments are that are quick looks of "Hey are you watching me, mom?" These sweet boys were born just a short week ago on probably the warmest birthday they will ever have! It was a beautiful 80 degree day for their grand entrance. When we shot these pics, though, it was as cold and dreary as any day could get. That's spring in Tennessee for you! We found a way to put the "spring" in the day yesterday using this pair of very special bunnies. Dad wonders what they will think of these pictures when they are in high school!! We hope they will enjoy them and cherish the memories forever-can't wait for 3 month shots!!

We got to "re-visit" some old friends for a session and make some new ones for their first Cogknitive shoot. Miss C. is now past due for 18 months shots and her brothers just could not be left out. Their family is just beautiful and growing by leaps and bounds. We loved spending some time with them all.

Then our T-man and sister Ella let us work with them for the first time. They are gorgeous subjects that make the hardest things for us to do is deal with the spring allergies! We loved spending time with these precious children and think they will have some beautiful memories of a beautiful day.

Couldn't help but share a bright spot on this very dreary day. We are so very partial to little pieces and parts in pictures. I wonder if it's the momma in us. If you are a mom, you know those precious glances that only you get to see like the way that baby lays in your arms at 3 in the morning. And if you are mom, you know how intimately you have checked each little "piece and part." Guess that brings us back to being very partial to the pieces and parts!! Just love those eyes, lashes, cheeks, and lips that we get to see here. We are keeping our fingers crossed for some warm sunshine this weekend. Family Involvement!!

Well, whether my family likes to admit it or not, they have gotten bitten by the photography bug too! The doves in the top pictures are daily visitors at our back window. We've come to expect them each morning as we are getting ready for work. Heck, I've even looked up some facts and found that these creatures mate for life, so now I am more attached. One morning this week my husband insisted that I get their picture. He's gotten to be real helpful at making photo op suggestions :) I am glad we got them though and I think we should name them now!

Then, just this morning, Tripp wants to know where "his" camera was. After carefully getting it out, turning it on, and finding his favorite subjects, he composed his shot. Just check out the concentration on his face. The wrestlers are Finley and his partner, Hornswaugle (which I obviously cannot spell!). As my boy approaches his 8th birthday, he is a fanatic for wrestling. He still loves all his other sports, is quickly learning his multiplication facts, and is as all boy as ever. I can't believe that it was 8 years ago when this sweet thing entered our lives.

Rae and Doug are planning an intimate wedding that celebrates the special things in their life-family, faith, and love. We met them today at Starbuck's in Murfreesboro which is where they met for their first date and also where Doug popped the big question. Where better to snap a few shots to include at the wedding reception? We had beautiful weather (especially for February) and are keeping our fingers crossed for more pretty sun on the big day :)

Oh, how we hope that groundhog was right and spring is on its way!!! Last week snow... this week...70 degrees. Dear Lord, if you're listening, this is our kind of weather! Senior Pictures-Cogknitive sTyLe!

We take fun, funky, fresh, modern senior portraits on location. Portraits that reflect your personality and define you as a senior!
We don't...
use studio backdrops, limit poses or clothing changes, have minimum purchases, use the same locations or dated props.
Why don't we? Because we like images to look like this.....

So, what do you do?? Well, it goes like this...
You pick out the outfits you want to wear. You pick an available date. We have a talk about what defines you as a senior and what you want your images to reflect about you. We travel around to locations on the day of your shoot and have lots of fun. You can use the props you want, wear the clothes you want, change when you want, bring what you want. (We've even shot with cows!)
So then what?
Within a week we'll blog some samples and post your images for online viewing. Tag them on Facebook and be sure to send your friends the link so they can check out your awesome self! We'll blog some of our favorites, but you can view them all on our site, show them to friends and family all over the place, buy digital files, or purchase prints and products that you want.
What?? I can buy the files? Really?
Yep. You can print as many as you want from the CD you purchase, but the release does prevent you from selling the images or publishing them and not giving credit to the photographers.
What's this going to cost me?
We bill $50 per hour for your shoot with the first hour fee due at the time of booking. Fifteen minutes into the next hour bills the next hourly rate. Your hourly fee pays for the photographers' time, talents, and processing and posting. You don't pay extra to use your items or change clothes or locations. If you want a few with your boyfriend, girlfriend, BFF, it's fine as long as it's ok with your mom or dad.
Digital files and prints are sold separately as you need them. If you only want a 5x7, that's what you buy. If you want proofbooks, albums, gallery wraps, wallets, or whatever, you can buy those too.

Today's weather made me itchy to get back outside and start snapping some fun! I had bright green spring grass, daffodils, blue skies, and warm sun on my mind. It made me go back and peek at some of last summer's work. This pic of Carly was done on a sweltering hot afternoon. We even had a quick rainstorm blow up and then leave us with even thicker air! These shots were actually done in the barn while the rain fell. After all the snow (which was gorgeous), today's sunny skies sure took me back. Holly and I stand firm on the fact that we are summer people who simply tolerate the cold. Today was our kind of day for which we are grateful!

If you are a follower of the blog, you'll know about my love of the University of Tennessee. It has been heightened since I write checks to that fine establishment now! However, my husband's blood runs a deeper shade of orange than the rest of the family. He is a hardcore Auburn fan. I feel the need to clarify that he has been one since I've known him. That's important because he would want you all to know that he is not a johnny come lately or a fair weather fan....oh, no, my man is a War Eagle and an Auburn Tiger (but I don't know how they got both of those mascots together!) However, any real supporter of SEC football needs to be liking War Eagles and Auburn Tigers better than Oregon Ducks!! The pictures are from a visit we made over Christmas and a fitting reminder to us SEC fans of the grand tradition of southern football. So......WAR EAGLE!!

like Christmas! There's snow!! Oh, my goodness! How did we get it this early and will it be here for the 25th? Meanwhile, we are enjoying pj time (snow day from school) and reading to sweet Elfie. Elfie is here in December to check on Tripp and report back to Santa. Slater boy has Max to come check on him and sister girl. I am pretty sure that the elves are reporting good things to Santa and he will be able to bring our babies some fun gifts. Good thing he works in the snow and will be able to get through no matter the weather conditions!

Okay, so it was a family shoot...family of six total. So, I'm pretty sure this is not the pic that anyone had in mind. All that being said, I love it. Sometimes, an image just speaks to you, weird, but it really happens. I say when it does, that's the one to go with because I don't think you would ever regret having it. There's one Holly took of my two babies that is all just sides of faces and sweet cheeks and eyelashes. It's the BIG one over my bed. I'm not sure if anyone else truly loves it, but I still do every day that I see it. Well, that's my spill for the day and I love this photo. It's not my child, but I might have to have it BIG somewhere in my life!!

These two seniors were great fun to shoot! They play guitar in their church band and wanted some pictures with both church and guitar. I am thrilled with what we got from these guys and really enjoyed getting to know them better. They were wonderful gentlemen, helping me with two cameras climb over some rather large boulders and a creek. With time like that spent together, I'd say we are fast friends!

Our recent bride had a "period" wedding that took us somewhat back in time. The wedding was at the Sam Davis Home which is in Smyrna, Tennessee. Sam Davis was a confederate soldier who lost his life while functioning as a spy during the War Between the States. His home and the surrounding land have been preserved as a historical monument for visitors to come and learn about that time period.
Our couple went with the theme of the venue! This included re-enactment soldiers, a cannon, authentic war uniforms for the groom and groomsmen, and an outdoor ceremony on the front porch. The pictures were gorgeous and depict how happy this couple was on their special day.

We went to scout out our upcoming wedding site today. Since it will be at the Sam Davis home, I knew my little guy would be interested in scouting out his own locations. So while I checked camera settings, he checked rocks, sticks, old buildings, and asked LOTS of questions. A fun afternoon, actually, plus I captured some gorgeous blue eyes! Beautiful Miss Amy has been through quite an ordeal this summer. She had corrective surgery on her back and that made this cross country runner stop and put her feet up for a while. As these pictures attest, she is all put back together again and ready for her close up! We enjoyed carting her around town for some well deserved attention!

Here's my rather apprehensive looking boy on his first day of second grade. He already loves his teacher, has great fun with his classmates, and has developed some of the same 2nd grade quirks I had noticed his big sister having. This must be an age of unsureness. You can read it on his face. He does wonderfully once he decides that he can. Right now, there's a tooth literally hanging by a thread in there. But, he is mortified about losing it. Mind you, he's lost teeth before, but remember "age of unsureness!" When big sis was a second grader she worried about the correct amount of sleep!!
With our weather being SO hot, we haven't taken clients outside for shoots. The weather is breaking this weekend and we already have a gorgeous young girl ready to roll. Meanwhile, I will encourage the boy 'cause he's such a second grader now!

So, we moved my girl back to K-town this weekend. Of course, I had to make time to snap a few pictures of the old traditions on campus and even this last one of the frantic new face of Neyland. We shot the pictures SOOO quickly! We had about 30 minutes of clear sky and made a run for it. The weather has been full of pop up showers in the late afternoon this summer, so we are learning to deal with it.
